Why Is the Water Valve Buzzing?
The short answer
A brief buzz as the ice maker fills is ordinary; a buzz that drags on with nothing flowing, or never ends, means the valve or its supply needs a look.
Check in this order
- Note when it buzzes: only during fills, or also between them.
- Open the water line's shut-off valve all the way.
- Switch the unit off, reseat the water filter firmly, then switch it back on.
- Pour a glass from the dispenser, if yours has one, to prove water reaches the unit.
- Switch the ice maker off if it buzzes and no water comes, and stop there.

Behind the answer
The valve is opened electrically for each fill, and another refrigerator maker’s use and care guide lists that buzz among normal sounds, adding that it happens whether water is connected or not.
So the sound proves little; the water behind it is what counts. An ice maker left on with its water off can freeze its fill tube, Sub-Zero warns, hence the last step.
